The ad is targeting 18 to 35 year olds and I think they get it. Boost is a pre paid cell phone offer for college/urban/early career types not ready for 2 year contracts and such. Point of the ad is that pre paid users have been "wronged" by the phone companies is unclear terms and added fees. The arm hair is just wrong, the additional fees are just wrong and Boost is going to treat customers right.

I agree with most. I have seen the ad numerous times and had no idea who/what is trying to be sold - until I caught this thread. I think there was something about mother nature in there somewhere and I have no idea what that has to do with phone service.

I thought Boost was a supplemental drink for diabetics or older folks. After watching the ad several times, I still fail to see the humor. Now I will not buy any product with "Boost" in its name or ad. I change the channel as quickly as I can when it comes on and discontinue watching the program that was on before the ad came on. No, I am not in the target demographic but those I know who are, say it totally grosses them out too. What are we teaching our children? I find it funny that Americans think the entire female population on the planet shaves their armpits. Just think a couple hundred years ago, they didn't. Some females in Europe don't shave, nor do some in Africa, or Asia. The hair is also obviously fake.

I think the only good comments came from the people who mentioned us having no problems looking at eviscerated, burnt, mutilated, or otherwise deformed body parts yet get grossed out over fake hair. The other one was about how no one complains about fat, hairy, stinky, overweight men (who are walking heart attacks).

I give kudos to the person that brainstormed the orginal concept and storyboard of this hilarious ad! The ad is silly, borderline offensive and completely random in a faux-youtube kind of way. In other words it's a pretty close approximation of the kinds of things I (and many others) spend time watching on the Interwebs. If that's not your thing, this ad probably wasn't designed with you in mind.

Ok people get with it. Just like the commercials with super stars(Jermaine Dupri, Young Jeezy, & Mikki Valentine, Big Pun)WHERE YA AT!!! with the cherp.. Dahh same company.
The demo target is between 18 and 24. And it seems that none of the comments are coming from that group. this is 2009, clever is the name of the game.. And that commercial alone has boost(no pun intended) sales for that company.

I think it is terrific...as you are all saying, "this is so wrong!" That's exactly what I thought when seeing the ad. But then I wanted to know...what could be as wrong as that pit hair hitting the poor guy in the face. Hidden charges on my cell phone...yeah that is really wrong too! Boost doesn't target the middle-aged, they target the teens/college group. Even if you can't make the connection, they can and that is what is most important!

I find this ad disgusting, and while the ad in itself is memorable, it's hard to connect it to any specific company, and therefore I don't see how it can be helping them ... only hurting, because of the gross-out factor. The only commercial I've seen that's had me more grossed out was the one with the coroner and the burrito, which come to think of it I believe is also a Boost ad! And that made me actually *pause* my television to let the nausea subside, before going on with my show ...

I'm in the target demographic, and I also tend to prefer a prepaid plan anyway, since I have enough bills as it is. But this just makes me want to avoid Boost, and stick with the larger, more established companies like Verizon (my current) ... at least they're not making me lose my dinner!

Obscure only really works well if you're already a big enough name that flashing it once sticks, like with Geico, for instance ... but I'm not an ad exec, what do I know?

There's a Charmin toilet tissue commercial depicting bears playing football. When one bear bends over he has bits of tissue on his behind as if he didn't wipe well. The other bear hands him a roll of Charmin and he goes off behind a tree and re-wipes. The premise of the ad is to say Charmin leaves less residue when you finish taking a crap.It's tasteless but that's how untalented these ad creators have become. Americans have the dumbest value system on the face of the earth. We're the poster children for hypocrosy. All of you guys have farted and pulled the covers over your wives heads at least once & you women have laughed but would never tell. Lighten up FGS. I have to agree with the posters here who found the commercial funny if a bit icky. That was the point. Americans as a whole have a limited sense of humor and a false sense of their 'superior' body image. Body hair is a social issue, to the extent that the celeb-trash mags will make an unshaved armpit front page "news". As others have said here, we are so willing to watch shows like CSI with cut up and mangled bodies but our percieved view of better hygine makes us ill. Really want to know how clean Americans are? go ask the Jay sisters for thier opinion.

I think many of you are missing the point. Most would agree that it's revolting (based on our culture's aversion to pit hair), but they're likely not targeting the same demo that reads these news & industry articles on MSNBC.com. Someone mentioned the TV station should take it off the air...unless it's unethical, I'm pretty sure they'd rather have the ad revenue and leave the pit hair backlash for Boost to deal with. I'm guessing they were aiming for a younger demographic who likely thinks it's funny. I am in my 20s and first found it to be a turn-off (almost literally), then funny...then I thought about their message. I'd consider Boost now. You can't always analyze an ad's effectiveness based on whether or not it makes some people groups say "eww."

Like many here, I couldn't remember the product because I couldn't stand to watch enough of the ad to find out. I've lived and traveled in Europe for 7 years - it's a totally exaggerated and ludicrous display - and poorly filmed.

I am also fed up with all the ads for ED, birth control, feminine protection, and other things that belong behind the bedroom door and are of no consequence to children. I watch TV with my children under age 10. You can just imagine the questions this kind of advertising prompts.

I thought the series of dancing phlegm ads were invented simply to make me lurch for the remote, but this is just as bad. Actually, i really don't even want to think about if it's worse.

But here is something that goes along way to explaining here we are today.
I met with the 31 year old head of a local ad agency here. And in passing I used the phrase "gilding the lily".
He looked confused and said what is that supposed to mean and did you just make that up?

I said well, that is pretty much a three word definition of advertising and the guy that made that up is, um, dead. But he was the man.

Seriously, I "got" this ad. I hate cell phone plans and despise 2 year contracts! The program they're promoting is actually QUITE attractive to me... only problem, when I looked into it, the program is offered by Sprint who I f**kin HATE. So I'm wating for verizon and others (if there are any "others" left) to come out with the same programs.

I actually am MORE offended by being forced into 2 year contracts than the ad!
