In a new commercial for Duracell batteries, a mom is at the park, unbuckling one child from a stroller, when suddenly she realizes that her other child has gone missing.
As she looks around, the camera cuts to a white van pulling away. Has the child

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

And this is wierd because? A previous ads I have seen by Duracell where it talks about the batteries in communication devices that get firefighters out of harms way - was much more effective. It deals with a life or death matter but you come away from the ad feeling great that these heros are being protected. But this ad about the child locator - I'm not a mom - but still there is something about this ad, that is just yucky - it just seems so be so obviously pulling on our instinct to protect children, but in the end it doesn't remind me how good these batteries are, but instead how many dangers there are for children and how often we can't protect them - so whenever the ad plays I always feel sad, frustrated, etc. by the end.

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

I wasn't aware that invading a child's privacy was &quot;needless and creepy&quot;. &nbsp;I know I when I take my first grader to the park, I tell him to meet me back at the monkey bars, then go our separate ways.

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

So I guess the 90% of kidnappings that involve family memebers or acquintances all use vans in their getaways? We live w/ the ever-present fear someone is going to nab our kids right in front of us. They can't ride bikes, walk to a friend's or go look on the toy aisle by themselves. They can't throw paper routes, sell cookies door-to-door or walk the dog. Boys have to go w/ Mom into the Ladies restroom and vice versa for girls. There's no walking to the store for candy, or waiting more than 5 minutes to be picked up from school. I shudder to think what kind of adults this generation is going to be like. All alkaline batteries are created equal. (You'll never convince me of otjerwise) I can't believe that anyone would buy into the hype that you must have Duracell over, say, Energizer (or vice - versa) or Rayovac (which is my personal choice as they are far cheaper than the &quot;major&quot; brands!) I wonder how many free batteries Duracell gave away to that fire department (in previous commercials) to be able to say that they used them exclusively. As far as batteries are concerned, at least Duracell vs Energizer, I would bet they are no different or last any longer than either aginst each other. And as far as the most recent &quot;lost child&quot; commercial, I, too, was only left wondering where the inplanted chip was in the child!

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

I don't like the ad personally but there's a lot of garbage out there on tv anway. &nbsp; Most ads are trash these days. &nbsp; If I don't like whats on tv, get this, I TURN IT OFF. &nbsp; As an individual I try to treat my children with respect and instill some sense of personal responsibility within them. &nbsp; Most of these comments here fly from one extreme to the other. &nbsp; Thanks John from Milwaukee for your levity and Forest from NM for your common sense. &nbsp;Let's stop placing BLAME on everyone else, shall we???

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

FDR: &quot; We have nothing to fear but fear itself.&quot; &nbsp;May not be a verbatim quote but you get the point. &nbsp; Our illustrious leaders in D.C. are masters at using fear to get what they want. &nbsp; Why shouldn't Duracell?

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

The add was for batteries not the device. Nauseating ad-mom, nauseating premise.<br>My son, fwiw, wandered out of Disney Europe's gates, and found my aunt's car (a typical European box) in the massive parking lot (among tens of thousands of other Euro boxes), where he waited patiently for an hour (while we were scouring the park screaming his name along with all the security personnel) until a police officer noticed him and took him back to the Information Desk. Some old-fashioned &quot;yelling at your kid in that voice that says, &quot;I love you but I’m really mad at you&quot;&quot;, and all was well.

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

It's just an ad, not as bad as most, and at least I can see what Duracell has to do with the content. &nbsp; Some ads are so dumb, one cannot even understand what it is they are advertising. &nbsp;I don't see these ads as fear mongering; they are simply selling two products with one ad. &nbsp;Pretty sharp, I'd say. &nbsp; But I am seeing the ad WAY TOO OFTEN -like most ads! &nbsp;Argh...

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

So this add or this device might be over the top, or someone might find it useful. It appears majority of statements on this site are criticizing parents and not the comercial or device. To those of you that say the mom should have been watching her kid must not have kids!!! And come back to this when you do! She bent down to buckle her other child in his/her stroller - the other child walked off. She didn't head to the bar for a drink, sit and have a conversation on her cell phone! Try managing two young children every single second of the day, expecting them to follow every single word you say! They are human, they explore, they wander. The kid wasn't 16 years old! The kid was, 4 or 5? I am a very attentive parent, my kids follow directions, but sometimes, they see something they want and they head that direction! They aren't intentionally misbehaving, the parents may not be being unattentive, it happens in a matter of seconds. Be crtitical of the comercial, not critical of the mother or parents until you are one and everything goes as you planned and your children obey everything you say every minute of every day!! It doesn't happen! And I have good kids, they follow directions for the most part but they are kids! They make mistakes and bad decisions!

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

Funny thing, this ad is running on MSNBC.com . . .

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

F**k these paranoid types who'll have a person believe how insecure this country has become. &nbsp;I say put the &quot;Brickhouse&quot; up the CEO's A** so he can find out where the club house was at his exclusive country club.

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

Fear sells, alright. They are little, so they can slip through spaces that adults cannot, and they are easily distracted by things that are a knee level for us. No matter how good a parent you are, how much you are paying attention to them, every parent will lose track of a small child at some point, and those that say they never did are either lying or repressing the fear that they felt the day that it happened to them. It only takes a second, a distraction from another child, a call from the other family that you are meeting for lunch or an untied shoelace, and they can be gone. The white van may be a little over the top, but I thank God for the alert NYC Police Officer who found my 3 year old son when he slipped away to watch the skaters in Rockefeller Center. It scared the crap out of me, but not enough to put a tracking collar on him.

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

In fact the ad really helped out BrickHouse who sold out of the device in 48 hours after the commercial aired and now have a backlog of orders to fill.<br><br><a rel="nofollow" target="_new" href="http://www.gpsdaily.com/reports/Revolutionary_BrickHouse_Child_Locator_Sells_Out_In_48_Hours_999.html">http://www.gpsdaily.com/reports/Revolutionary_BrickHouse_Child_Locator_Sells_Out_In_48_Hours_999.html</a>

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

I just find it amusing that mom immediately pulls out the tracker, and TOTALLY ignores the other child in the stroller. &nbsp; Then when she finds the little lost lamb, she walks away from the stroller. &nbsp;Kinda shows *why* she needs a tracking device!<br>

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

The batteries are good, the commercial suk's. And the public should decide if they want the device or not. It is not an invasion of privacy if it stays within the realm of the parent and child. If the RFID tag within the child (wherever it may be) becomes public or government information, then we have a problem. Scare tactics are used every day on stupid adds like this. Only the childless would show such a lack sensitivity to condemn everyone who doesn't live up to their lofty and impractical ideals. Even the best most caring parents occasionally lose track of a kid. They are sneaky critters who move fast. An adult with two kids is outnumbered from the git go. A tracking device for the mobile one is not an invasion of privacy. As one writer put it kids that age should have no &nbsp;privacy. And instead of teh useless time wasting of running around yelling for your kid having a tracker tell you instantly where they are would be far more protection. &nbsp; My fear is not teh &nbsp;duracell will somehow increase teh fear factor. To you who dont think the judicial system should protect and this innocent stuff have obviously never had to deal with seperation and children going off with whom you know is not suitable to watch over your children and need to comment maybe on a different product that you can make an educated comment on, those of you without children should really have no opion at all. And like i said although i guess im on here commenting its a commercial does it really need a chat room

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

Johnny B. You don't like the ad, great, do something about it. I myself see the point they are driving, that the device worked because the batteries worked. This kind of advertising is getting stale, but their point is at least clear, I'll give them that. As for taste? I think they pushed it a bit, 'fearful advertising' is uncalled for. My biggest complaint however is from those posting, saying give your kids no privacy and stay so close you mouth breaths drop drool on their foreheads. You smother them, they tune you out. I'm not advocating parents being uninvolved, but I know that if *I* was one of those children with a tracking device implanted in me, the same kind they give DOGS, someone would be sued the moment I turned 18. Imagine, I would never have to learn what working was in that scenario, I would have so much cash from that settlement. The twisted ones aren't the people who made the ad, I actually thank Duracell for bringing this sick and barbaric practice implimented by some parents to light. Imagine graduation day or something. &quot;We're proud of you son, and now that you're old enough, we can take you to a doctor and get that beeping implant out of neck.&quot; The only consolation those kind of kids have is that they will be the ones choosing the rest homes they put those sick parents in, and I hope they have a twisted sense of humor when they do it. I call foul, child abuse. I'm glad the batteries last like they do, I buy the product, but bad move on being affiliated with such a company that makes child trackers. My four year old is autistic and doesn't like to stay still. I don't have many issues, it's called be a good parent, and be careful. Speaking of which, aren't you parents better off getting off the net and spending time with your kids anyways? Let the kiddies get back to arguing about how good this is or isn't. set an example and click the X at the top right hand corner of your screen. As someone once said 'if you don't like what's on TV, change the channel.&quot;

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

hahaha you crazy americans! you spend your whole lives jumping at shadows. This is one of the worst. It left me very disturbed. As at least one other poster points out, you remember the ad, and not in a good way, but forget what product was being sold. On the other hand with the feelings the ad brings up forgetting the product is probably a good idea.

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

My youngest son is autistic. When he was younger- 3 and 4 he would wake up during the night and try to leave. He also would try to leave during day. Tracking devices are not priced family friendly, we did look. They are more concerned with profit than your child. We ended up with a padlock for our gates, a leash for outings and a bell on windows and doors. <br>Parents know the dangers their kids face, and to be good ones we don't have to let electronics do our jobs for us, or companies to scare us. We need only to pay attention.

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

wow im more informed on the comments than the commercial all you work for duracell or what?

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

Remember, the ad is for Duracell, not BrickHouse. &nbsp; It's not promoting a fundamental breach in personal privacy or even associating itself with parents who can't appropriately raise their children to 'stay put'. &nbsp; It's simply saying, in the case when something must work, we're the ones to make sure it is doing its job. &nbsp;Frankly, commercials for home security more accurately depict everyone's complaints.

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

i think this is just one more step closer to the mark of the beast next it will be inserted in the hand or forehead and will hold all our info i would stay away from this thing its just making it look like a good idea when its not it treading dangerous territory..read the bible you will understand.

Trust Duracell to scare the *$#%! out of you

Thank you!
